NEFC Mission
“Committed to the promotion of the regional fiberoptic industry and the dissemination of information about fiber optics to the general public.”
The NEFC was founded in 1986 by a few local industry leaders. The goal was quite simple – to promote the fiber optics industry in the New England area and bring people and companies together for professional purposes. The NEFC sponsors dinner meetings and presentations, as well as company tours and a yearly local trade show that bring together the fiberoptic community.
Objectives
Industry Promotion
A variety of activities are pursued to publicize the industry and foster regional business relationships. These include the compilation of a membership directory, publication of a buyer’s guide to products and services offered by members, dissemination of industry news to regional media, and developing relationships with related technical organizations.
The Council also utilizes its contacts on the state and national levels to promote regional business in foreign countries. By working with state International Trade and Commerce Departments, as well as foreign embassies, the Council can provide members with low-cost opportunities to pursue business overseas.
Information Access and Exchange
This objective is met through eight monthly dinner meetings, each including brief presentations by member firms, guest speakers and panel discussions on a variety of fiberoptic applications, or tours of member companies. These meetings provides a forum for net-working among colleagues. Periodic one-day topical seminars will also be promoted for corporate sponsors.
Education
Educational efforts include the development of fiberoptic videos for use by colleges and technical schools, guest lectures by member experts at interested educational institutions, and NEFC-funded scholarships.
