Opportunities for Homeland Security Applications

The integration of various photonic sensing concepts can achieve the multi-functional
sensing requirements of evolving security needs. The presentation focused
on the technology, markets and activities within the Fiber Optic Sensor
Consortium.
Dr. David A. Krohn
has over 39 years experience in the photonics industry. He is the Managing
Partner of Light Wave Venture Consulting LLC, which is focused on developing
photonics business opportunities in telecommunications, sensors and biophotonics.
He has assisted over 75 companies with activities in funding, planning
and management functions.
Overview of
Military Photonic Sensing Activities
Alexis Mendez, MCH Engineering
The presentation focused on the driving forces for sensors in military
applications, both battlefield and homeland security needs,
and will identify activities within various government agencies.
Dr. Mendez is the president of MCH Engineering LLC. Prior to his current
position he held engineering management positions with Arista Networks,
Phaethon Communications and ABB. He is chairing and organizing the next
International Optical Fiber Sensors Conference OFS -18 (Cancun, Mexico,
Oct. 23-27, 2006). He is also teaching a short course in fiber optic sensors
at OpticsEast.
