Burlington Marriott, Burlington, MA
Topic:
Fiber
and Photonics for
Military and Defense Applications
Speakers:
Tony Christopher
Vice President, Engineering, kSARIA Corp.
Fiber optic
deployment in aerospace applications is growing at an accelerated rate
on a broad scale. This presentation discussed a general overview of common
military & aerospace fiber optic interconnect assemblies and advanced
manufacturing technology used in their production. The demanding environmental
conditions and maturity of fiber technology within aerospace applications
presents many challenges in this growing market segment. These challenges
were discussed.

Fiber and photonics
are increasingly being used in military and defense applications to improve
performance, reduce weight and increase efficiency. Applications span a
wide range including undersea sonar arrays, fiberoptic gyros, avionics
countermeasures and satellite communications. These applications and their
environments provide unique challenges in the design, manufacture and
assurance of the components and systems.
